Pelvic issues worse when you travel? 4 culprits may be…

Blog 6 pf worse travel

Here are 4 areas to address if your pelvic floor issues get worse when you travel…

1. SITTING A LOT

Trains, planes, automobiles… there’s a lot of sitting for long hours in travel and this can put strain, tension, pressure, and tightness on the pelvic floor area. Especially because it’s common to slouch and bring your pelvis into a posterior tilt after so many hours sitting (think: curling up trying to get comfy enough to sleep on a flight).

⭐️ TRY: standing up and/or doing hip circles every so often. Plus, adding some lumbar support to your sitting position so you’re sitting more upright on your pelvis.

2. ANXIETY ABOUT WHEN/WHERE TO FIND A BATHROOM

Many people will ‘pee just in case’ even when they don’t have to go, hover over an unfamiliar toilet seat, or avoid 💩-ing all together if not at home. These things may seem logical, but actually they’re not great for your pelvic floor health.

⭐️ TRY: Bring wipes/use liners to sit on toilet seats, try not to go ‘just in case’ if possible, see @elysesparkes ‘constipation’ highlight for 💩 tips.

3. GETTING OUT OF YOUR REGULAR EXERCISE/REHAB ROUTINE

If 1) is true for you, then you might not be moving much at all.

⭐️TRY: Walk! Walking as much as you can can help counter the effects of sitting, is beneficial for your pelvic floor and whole body.

4. EATING/DRINKING MORE BLADDER IRRITANTS THAN USUAL

They are certain foods and drinks that can irritate your bladder and worsen things like urinary urgency/incontinence. A simple google search will show you a list, but you might not be too surprised by some (ahem, caffeine + alcohol 👀). Don’t freak out by this!! The whole list doesn’t apply to everyone + it’s a more complicated subject that may take time/expertise - probably not going to figure it out on your vacation tbh 🤷🏻‍♀️.

⭐️TRY: If you *already know* something irritates your bladder, try to find a substitute or cut back on that item. Plus, make sure you’re staying well hydrated throughout your trip!

Okay now tell me where you’re traveling to!! (Real or where you WISH you were going 😉)
