Size Inclusive Bathing Suits (and why they're good for your core and pelvic floor)

Blog Bathing Suits

It's bathing suit season!!!

Before we get to the swimwear, here's an important Public Service Announcement:

STOP SUCKING IN YOUR BELLY.

Why?

A) For the obvious reason: dismantling the patriarchal beauty standards that try to convince us that we must be as small as possible.

🤬 that!

And,

B) Because it's possible "sucking it in" is making your pelvic floor dysfunction worse!!!

😲

If you're conditioned to "keep a tight core" all the time OR don't even realize you're doing it, it can be a hard habit to break.

Like almost everything, increasing your awareness is the first place to start.

Do you:

  • draw in your abs when you pass by a mirror?

  • hold your breath when you're typing?

  • 'suck it in' when in tight clothes or a bathing suit?

If/when you notice this, try to release the hold and take 3 slow breaths.

Now, without further ado...

SWIMWEAR!

🩱👙🩳

When I asked you all for suggestions of bathing suit brands that are size inclusive, highlight body diversity, are fashionable and good quality, you delivered!

Two brands that hit all elements above are...

Alpine Butterfly Swim is inspired by self-love, authenticity, and body positivity. They're Latina owned, have zero-waste manufacturing methods, are made in LA, and have sizes XS-6X. *Thanks for the recommendation J!

AND

Girlfriend Collective is an eco-friendly company. They believe health and wellness come in many shapes and sizes, and that representation matters. They have sizes XXS - 6XL. *Thanks for the recommendation S!

Everybody had great recommendations!!

Check these out:

Know of any others?

I'll add them to the list!

*By the way, I'm not affiliated with any of these companies, nor do I receive any compensation for linking to them. I asked you all what brands you liked, and I'm just sharing that info in case it can be helpful to anyone!

With love, pelvic health, and body kindness,

xoxo Elyse
